Because of the recent flooding in South Louisiana, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has deployed the National Response Team to support the Presbytery of South Louisiana and the Synod of the Sun as they begin outreach to those affected.
- How can we help? Money of course -- but also they need PEOPLE to volunteer to help with cleanup and rebuilding.
The PDA National Call Center (866-732-6121) gets you information on how congregations can help families who have lost everything. But most of all, pray for the families impacted by the flooding, the first responders and all other who put themselves in harm’s way to care for those impacted. Pray for strength and courage for everyone involved.
When school starts – Autumn and all its activties can’t be far behind!! It’s time to put our October 22, 2016 Chili/Soup Cook Off and Bazaar onto the front burner planning mode. Bring your soup and chili recipies out of their summer slumbers and think of entering your family favorites in competition for Chili/Soup Champion.
(Tim Kelly will be defending the title he won last year for his delicious Hot Green Chili.)
So what can you do?? For the Bazaar, think about making smaller items that can be sold for $10.00 or less. Decorative items, useful trinkets, house plant starts, yummy treats are some things that were enjoyed last year. Foods that literally “ran out the door” were homemade candies, cookies, cupcakes/muffins, fried pies, jellies, jams pickled vegetables, salsas, tea mixes, snack mixes and seasoned crackers. And don’t forget our precious pets with homemade dog and cat treats and bird food. Many recipies for these items can be found on line. Large items can be divided into smaller portions and packaged for two or three in a box or bag.
A mission group from our church and community is traveling to Southeastern Mexico to aid the indiginous Mayan people with safe and healthy housing. The session has approved the use of our Chili/Soup cook off funds and the Noisy Offering to be used toward the purchase of:
- 10 water purifiers @ $35 each – $350
- 10 smokeless stoves @$100 each – $1000
- 1 sanitary latrine @ $150 – $150
Our goal is to raise the $1500 by the mission trip in early December.
Check the bulletin board for the many mission activities in which our church members participate. We support and donate to local, state, national and international programs as we continue to try to live out our Church Mission Statement: "Our mission is to serve God by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout our community and the world."

Sunday, September 11, we will meet for worship in our pavilion, and lift our eyes to the beautiful Ozark hills across the valley. This is a wonderful time to worship, to have the joy of FPC fellowship, and to enjoy the beauty of our world.
Bring your lawn chair There are tables with benches in the pavilion, but you might want to bring your lawn chair to be more comfortable. There will be a shuttle provided to take you from the church “up the hill”, or you may drive up to the pavilion if you like.
Potluck: Don’t forget to drop off your potluck dish in the kitchen either before Sunday School, or on your way to the pavilion!
The Marion County Singing Convention is just around the corner! The fall convention will be held at the Eros Community Building located next to the Bruno-Pyatt School Saturday, Sept. 17th @7:00 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 18th @1:30 p.m.
There will be good old fashioned gospel singing, new songs of the day, singers and instrumentalists— there will be something for everyone to enjoy!! Come join in the congregational singing, share a special or just enjoy listening!!
Fall Bible Study: begins Monday, September 19 at 5:15 p.m. or Tuesday, September 20 at 9:30 a.m!
- We will be studying "Bad Girls of the Bible" by Liz Curtis Higgs. From Eve to the Woman at the Well, Delilah to Sapphira, the Bad Girls of the Bible study will bring you closer than ever To these shady ladies from Scripture who have so much to teach us!
There is a signup sheet on the table in the back or you may call the office if you are interested. The work book is $10.00 and the optional study book is $15.00.
September 19 - Ladies Gathering Potluck lunch at noon. Bring a friend or relative and come enjoy good food and fellowship.
Creekside Nursing Home is looking for volunteers to be a personal shopper with a resident. You would be asked to assist them in their shopping at Freds. They are also looking for Bingo partners and Bingo prizes. (nothing breakable or flammable) If you are interested, please contact Carolyn Sims.
A big THANK YOU to Judy Stein for donating lap quilts to Creekside Nursing Home. The residents will love them.
The Men’s Bible Study program will resume on September 20, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the church.
The study “Your Bible! The Study Begins,” offers an introduction of our faith and provides a refreshing orientation to the Bible and opens the door of understanding to all other Bible studies. Some topics that will be studied include:
- What is the Bible?
- How did the bible come to be?
- What are the Old and New Testaments all about?
- How shall we study the Bible?
The study will continue for 8 weeks, one night each week. Cost of the workbook for this study is $14.00. Please sign up as soon as possible so that we may order the workbooks in plenty of time for the study. Please join us and bring your friends! See you there! (Joe Hatcher and Jim Hampton)
On Friday, September 16th, we’ll head to Branson for the 10:00 A.M. show of the Blackwood’s Morning Show featuring the famous Blackwood Singers and the Blackwood Brother’s Quartet. The program will include Gospel, Country and Patriotic music.
- We’ll leave the church at 7:30 A.M. to give us time to buy ticket – our seats are reserved for the 3rd row!
Tickets will be $24.55 if we have 15 or $32.36 if under 15. However, KTLO has discounted tickets for this show. They are $32.50 for 2 tickets! These tickets must be purchased before the trip from the radio station.
We must know your plans by September 9th. We can have lunch together afterwards and since we are in Branson, we might as well go shopping if you wish!! Please sign up on the pad at church or contact Nellie Younts!
